OUR FOUNDER
DR. ROCHELLE NEWTON
Dr. Rochelle Newton started NASITC in 2020. She has been an advocate for more than forty years and has changed the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people. Dr. Newton grew up in rural South Carolina where she experienced severe food insecurity and overt racism.
She began her career in information technology (IT) in the 1970s. At that time, IT was mostly white and male (not much has changed). Succeeding in IT was challenging. She did not have an advocate, coach, or a mentor to help her navigate the workplace. Every success was hard-earned. Everything you will experience at NASITC is a direct result of those who find this work is a part of who we are. Equality is our passion!

Everything you will experience at NASITC is a direct result of Dr. Newton's commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and humanity! Equality is our passion!

Our vision is to provide a seat at the table, and a voice in the conversation for everyone. This maybe a tall order but we believe in the generosity of humanity! The complexities regarding age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, religion, and other constructs continue to challenge our planet.
We are uniquely positioned to disrupt the lack of equity and inclusion around us.
The problems in the workplace are not limited to stem (Science, Technology, engineering, and math/medicine). The workplace marketplace has been aligned with the founding of our country and its history of racism. Most areas of our lives are play and our work are replete with the challenges of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, and religion.
For women, in addition to the work, discrimination, harassment, and the lack of appreciation, low pay are ongoing factors. For Black and brown people, the constant fight to exist is onerous. In some cases, women and other ethnicities are invisible and voiceless. Many marginalized groups leave their careers simply to preserve their sanity.
The DEI work is not simple. In fact, it changes frequently. Work: Diversity officers are a band aid on life threatening injury. 'The Great Resignation' is one example of how out of touch organizations are with their employees. High turnover. Employee stagnation. Conflict in the workplace. Employees who feel unappreciated and undervalued. In our lives: We become accustomed to the routine. We accept whatever is offered. We do not pay attention to the stress of habitually. We no longer have those childlike joy that we once used to meet the world. Play: We check our phones every few minutes because we do not want to miss a thing. Yet, most of what comes to our phone is noise. Social media becomes a source of entertainment.
DEI will not solve all the issues of work, play, and life. However, if we take the time to see and hear each other, we have a chance. If we do a little introspect, you will find. that little boy of girl inside of you, you will see yourself as a success not defined by your job. Your job and money are simply tools to help you live your best life. If the job and money control you, then you do not have a life.
We suggest instead of hiring a diversity officer, hire a DEI consultant. We do not have the internal blinders of a diversity officer. We are not bound by organizational structure. DEI Consultants are about the business of equality. We identify the problem and suggest the best solution based on the organizational culture. . If you hire a diversity, hire a diversity consultant to assist the diversity officer to manage the challenges of DEI.
Hire NASITC for all of your DEI efforts and just possibly, we can change the world!
